New Toys - AHHHHHHHHHHHH

I've been so lazy in posting these last few weeks because I am feeling the pressure of my September deadline for my new book. With over 1000 illustrations to color I have my hands full! One of the best things for me about the process is breaking out my colored pencils. It takes me back to my younger days when my sisters and I would spend the day coloring in our Abbey Press coloring books. Above is my lazy susan pencil caddy which is chock full of every pencil under the sun. However, one can never have too many colored pencils. No matter how many colors you have there is never just the one you're looking for. So, in honor of my new book I plunked down some serious bucks for two new sets.

Now this is a set for the seriously obsessed pencil addict. 120 beautiful colors!!! And just look at that fabulous wooden box (too bad they will never remain in it ) This brand is Derwent which is one of my favs. They have great colors and the pencils are smooth and soft. Who needs designer shoes or jewelry when you can indulge yourself with these!!!!!!

The second set is also Derwent but these are pastel pencils. A much softer chalky lead. Only 90 colors in this set.

My colored pencil investment to date with all of my sets (only my favorite colors are kept in the lazy susan) amounts to a staggering $1100 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who knew you could spend so much on coloring sticks??

I have to go now and put these babies to good use. I promise to try to keep up my posts but I might be a bit sporadic for the next few months until I turn in my book.

You are a lucky girl! Where the heck did you find the pencil caddy?

I have to ask the same question! Where did you find such a neat pencil caddy? I can't find it on google anywhere, and it would be so much more useful than having my pencils lay all over my desk.

I also adore colored pencils. My brand of choice is prismacolor, but yours look quite tempting! Actually, I think of them as very economical because they last forever--not like paint which dries up on the palette and has to be thrown away. Can't wait to see what you do with them. Your drawings are awesome. Connie

LPE and Jewel,

Can you believe I found the pencil caddy at Marshals!!!!! I almost keeled over when I saw it. I was using Pampered Chef utensil caddies that I had bought online but they are ugly white plastic and they don't turn very smoothly. This one spins like a dream and it holds hundreds of pencils. Oh the little things that make me happy !!!!! Glad to see there are other pencil freaks out there.

Hi Connie,
I also love Prisma Color but I need more colors than they offer. I've found that each company has it's own palette and sometimes that will even vary between types of pencils within the same brand.

Oh Jackie!

What an amazing collection of colored pencils.

I love colored pencils, specially anything from Derwent. I used their drawing pencils in my college art classes.

I'm not much of an artist but anytime I hold one of their drawing pencils in my hands I'm inspired to create something beautiful. It just seems to flow from the pencil to the paper...

Hi Kay Ellen, can;t wait to get the tape - thanks.

Carmen - One of the great things about colored pencils is they are so forgiving and you can erase!!! Anyone can create something beautiful with them.
